ARTHUR WILLIAM EDGAR O'SHAUGHNESSY
English poet and herpetologist
(1844 - 1881)

One man with a dream, at pleasure,
  Shall go forth and conquer a crown
    And three with a new song's measure
      Can trample a kingdom down.
      - Music Makers [Music]

We are the music-makers,
  And we are the dreamers of dreams,
    Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
      And sitting by desolate streams;
        World-losers and world-forsakers,
          Of whom the pale moon gleams:
            Yet we are the movers and shakers
              Of the world for ever, it seems.
      - Music Makers [Music]

If you go over desert and mountain,
  Far into the country of Sorrow,
    To-day and to-night and to-morrow,
      And maybe for months and for years;
        You shall come with a heart that is bursting
          For trouble and toiling and thirsting,
            You shall certainly come to the fountain
              At length,--to the Fountain of Tears.
      - The Fountain of Tears [Tears]

For each age is a dream that is dying,
  Or one that is coming to birth.
      - We are the Music Makers [Time]
